We are very proud to share that Jim Brunenkant, Principal at Flowing Wells High School, has been selected as the ASA Secondary Arizona School Principal of the Year. And, he will be representing Arizona in the national competition this fall.
Mr. Brunenkant was hired as principal in 2005 and over the years worked with many talented assistant principals and staff members. He was the first to explicitly connect relationships to student learning as a school initiative. Mr. Brunenkant created the 100% Initiative that has since grown to a district-level goal. And, now he is pioneering our efforts in understanding the Millennial workforce and meeting the demands of a more mobile teaching workforce.
Over the years, eight of Mr. Brunenkant’s assistant principals have moved into principalships and one has moved into the superintendency. Mr. Brunenkant is committed to mentoring administrators and he is certainly pleased to know his award application was submitted by his current assistant principals.
Watching Mr. Brunenkant during lunch duty, one is able to witness his personal relationships with students. He engages in conversation about pop culture, discusses school activities , hands out candy, and makes many personal connections about school.
Congratulations to Mr. Brunenkant!
