Mr. Love to Retire

Mr. Love to Retire
Posted on 08/11/2023
Governing Board Member and current Clerk of the Board James Love has announced his plans to retire from the Board effective September 13, 2023. Since 2001, Mr. Love has been a fixture on the Governing Board and at so many District events and activities. He thinks of Flowing Wells as a family, and his service on the Board has ensured that our culture remains positive, relational, and student-centered. Mr. Love's own experiences navigating a challenging childhood shaped his views that every child should feel loved and should have full access to exceptional opportunities. His years-long advocacy for increased special education funding culminated in legislative approval in 2021 of updated funding formulas for students with disabilities. He also championed alternative education and took pride in the construction of our facilities for Sentinel Peak High School. Mr. Love and his wife Diane, who passed in 2017, adopted the FWHS football program, serving pre-game meals to the entire team for many years. Mr. Love's public service extended beyond Flowing Wells. He also served on the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Executive Board and on the Arizona State Board of Respiratory Care. In 2022 he was recognized by the Arizona School Boards Association with the Barbara Robey Lifetime Achievement Award for his incredible record of service.
The office of Pima County School Superintendent Dustin Williams will post the interim Governing Board position on or around September 14 for 30 days. Superintendent Williams and his staff will conduct interviews and then will appoint the interim board member by the end of October. More information regarding this process and how to apply will be available on the website of the Pima County School Superintendent and will be linked through the Flowing Wells website.
Although Mr. Love intends to continue working as a respiratory therapist, he certainly will gain some flexibility in his schedule when he retires from the Governing Board. He looks forward to more opportunities to spend time with family, to travel, and to work in his yard. We also can expect to see him at performances and athletic events around the District. We will miss his leadership on the Board, but we know he will stay deeply connected to Flowing Wells. Congratulations on your retirement, Mr. Love!
